Zero VAT & Government grants available for renewable heating installations

With all the changes to the prices of gas and electricity rising in recent months people are looking at ways to save money, including alternative heating solutions.

Air and ground source heat pumps are low carbon heating systems and new installations are being supported through the government Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a grant scheme to encourage those who are replacing their fossil fuel heating system to choose a heat pump installation instead.

The government have also announced that they will be charging zero VAT for the next five years on energy saving materials which includes heat pumps, solar panels, and insulation, this also covers labour and heat pump servicing for the next five years.

This is excellent news for people making energy saving improvements to their home and could offer significant savings for those who are upgrading their heating system.

As an example, with an air source heat pump installation costing £18,000, you would be eligible for a £5,000 grant under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, and you will also save around £900 on VAT (currently 5% VAT rate) totalling £5,900 saving on a new air source heat pump installation.
