Good news for homeowners with old oil or LPG boilers – Grant rising to £9000

Who qualifies for the £9,000 oil an LPG heat pump grant?

The UK government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is receiving a significant, temporary uplift, increasing the grant available for eligible off-gas grid properties from £7,500 to £9,000. This targeted increase of £1,500 is specifically for homeowners and small businesses in England and Wales that currently rely on heating oil or Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

The enhanced £9,000 grant will be available for new BUS voucher applications submitted on or after July 21, 2026, and is set to run until March 31, 2027. The funding is designed to reduce the upfront cost of installing low-carbon alternatives, such as an air source heat pump or a ground source heat pump.

This financial boost is intended to help households—particularly those in rural areas without access to the mains gas network—that are most exposed to fluctuating global fossil fuel prices. By accelerating the switch to a cleaner, more efficient, and electrically-based heating system, the scheme provides greater financial stability. The grant is claimed by an MCS-certified installer on the homeowner’s behalf and is deducted upfront from the total installation cost.
