The importance of getting your gas boiler serviced
It’s that time of year when it is starting to get colder and we want to put our heating on. We all want to feel warm and cosy as the nights draw in and don’t want problems with our heating to crop up at the worst possible time. It is important to make sure your gas boiler is regularly serviced and maintained to keep it working, the older the boiler gets the harder it has to work to heat your home, so regular care helps the lifetime of the boiler, therefore we recommend planning in your boiler maintenance and servicing each year.
To maintain your gas boiler warranty, your manufacturer will require your boiler to be serviced and regularly maintained. In addition to your keeping your warranty valid, inefficient central heating systems can cause you unnecessary extra cost, regular service can avoid unnecessary cost in your heating bills.
You need to ensure the person completing your gas boiler service is a gas safe registered engineer. The engineer will conduct checks for corrosion and leaks to ensure your system, ensure the gas pressure is correct and complete safety checks and cleaning maintenance as necessary.
If you have a faulty system, it can place your family at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Having your system serviced regularly will avoid the risk of carbon monoxide leaks. The NHS have reported that around 50 people each year die from CO poisoning and around a further 200 are treated in hospital from the effects of faulty gas appliances.
If you live in a rented property, or you are a landlord, there is a legal requirement for the gas appliances in the property to be certified as safe each year and be issued with a Gas Safety Certificate.
