Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution
On Thursday 18th November, Prime Minister Boris Johnson, outlined his plans for what he called the start of a new “Green Industrial Revolution” he set out a new Ten Point Plan, which he says will create and support 250,000 highly-skilled green jobs in the UK.
The Prime Minister said “Although this year has taken a very different path to the one we expected, I haven’t lost sight of our ambitious plans to level up across the country. My Ten Point Plan will create, support and protect hundreds of thousands of green jobs, whilst making strides towards net zero by 2050.”
One of the points focuses on homes and public buildings, making our homes, schools and hospitals greener, warmer and more energy efficient, whilst creating 50,000 jobs by 2030, and a target to install 600,000 heat pumps every year by 2028.
This is positive news for our industry. The installation of heat pumps is vital if the country is to de-carbonise and achieve the net zero target by 2050.
Therefore he confirmed the newly launched Green Home Grant Scheme will be extended by an extra year to March 2022 to support this.
The Renewable Heat Incentive also runs until March 2022, after which the Clean Heat Grant Scheme will replace it.
