The Sliding House, GSHP, Suffolk
This was a ‘self-build’ project; the customer had the house designed by an architect friend to an extremely innovative design idea – a large section of the house slides on runners.
R A Brown was involved supplying and installing the Underfloor heating, connecting the ground source pump and also carrying out all the plumbing work on the building.
This house has received a lot of press coverage in the Sunday papers appearing in The Observer and The Sunday Times.
Here is what the customer had to say about the experience –
“I had quotes in from four suppliers, including two nationwide franchises. By comparison with others, Richard Brown was heavy on helpful advice and light on high pressure sales.
“My needs changed as the project developed – originally I was going to have you supply the underfloor heat pipes and related kit and install much of it myself – but time pressure meant in the end I extended the supply only parts of the project to supply and fit. And then I needed more general plumbing services for bathrooms and kitchen. Your firm was very responsive to these changing needs.
“Fitting the geothermal heat pump was a challenge and (I) was glad to have a team who cared about getting this right.
You could in fact usefully offer a service, for a fee, to visit the site, review plans and offer advice on layout and necessary infrastructure. Much of this needs to be decided before foundations are laid, to make sure that drains and water supply pipes are in the right place and of adequate specification. I wish I had made contact sooner, given that much of my infrastructure was laid before the concrete slab was poured and could not be subsequently upgraded.”
